A slice of Durham.

Back in September I went home for my Birthday/Labor Day weekend and got tons of shots of everyday life in Durham. Now that I’m going home for Thanksgiving, I’m excited to shoot some more. I think it’s interesting to shoot a place you’ve been a million times. It allows you to get creative and to try to see things different.

Taken on with my Pentax K1000 on Portra 160NC.

I’m off to the Carolina of the North for the Full Frame Documentary Festival, folks! I interned there last year and now I’m going back as a staff member. I’m so excited, especially because their doc list looks so great!
I’ll be a bit MIA (I’ll miss you guys!) while I’m there. Here’s a photo of the Carolina Theatre where the festival was last year and will be this year. I hope to take tons of photos when I’m there. It’s gorgeous.

Things I Will Miss About the Triangle

As I get closer to moving to NYC, I’ve been thinking about what I am going to miss about the Triangle. When I first moved here in 2005 to start my freshman year in college, I never thought I’d love this area as much as I do. Nor did I think it would be as diverse and progressive as it is.

1) The Duke Gardens. It’s gorgeous and absolute perfection. I cannot think of a better place to just sit and read.

2) Indie theaters like The Colony, The Rialto and Carolina Theatre. There are no better theaters for watching small, independent films. Not mention that the people running these places are the coolest people you’ll ever meet.

3) The Independent Weekly. This paper gave me my first big break. It’s been so amazing in teaching me the ins and outs of journalism. They took a chance on a green-eyed kid right out of college and I couldn’t be more grateful. I’m going to miss all the free movie screenings.

4) Full Frame Documentary Festival. I could not have had a better internship experience. Nicest people and most amazing opportunity. I’ve learned so much and know that I want to be involved with festival programming again. I only hope I can come back next year as a volunteer.

5) Saladelia. Best Mocha Shakes ever. Enough said.

6) Mad Hatter’s. It’s a great cafe to just sit and write. I’ve written far too many college papers and newspaper articles here.

7) Pauly Dogs and Locopops. Pauly’s has chicken dogs! How awesome is that? And Locopops is just delicious. Every imaginable flavor, including Chocolate Mole. Mmm yum.
