The Lovin’ Spoonful - Summer in the City

Every once in a while I think about summer in DC (and bus trips to NYC) and just shriek (silently, sometimes outloud) in joy.

Oh heck yes! Here’s to the summer (and hopefully all my other summers) I will be spending in NYC this year.

Summer: I woke up one morning and I just knew.

Tom: Knew what?

Summer: What I was never sure of with you.

(Tom’s face here just breaks my heart. Every. Time.)

Summer: I like being on my own. I think relationships are messy and people’s feelings get hurt. Who needs it? We’re young, we live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world; might as well have fun while we can and, save the serious stuff for later.

The girl, Summer Finn of Shinnecock, Michigan, did not share this belief. Since the disintegration of her parent’s marriage she’d only love two things. The first was her long dark hair. The second was how easily she could cut it off and not feel a thing.
